The New Phipps

All winter and last fall the Phipps conservatory has been "under construction" as a new entry was built. Huge piles of dirt in front of the buildings, and we were guided to a back door as an alternate entry.
Finally the new entry is finished and it is beautiful. A glittering crystal jewel. The Grand Opening was held, first for the dignitaries and donors, and then for the general public.

There was a large problem. The building and it's interior were completed, but the grounds were still a mess! And spring has been late this year, no time for the beautifully planted beds that would normally grace the entryway.
What to do?
I'm sure someone was inspired by Christo's "Gates" in Central Park. The grounds were graded and "planted" with undulating beds of little nylon flags in bright colors. The effect was perfect!
