Silver Sneakers

I was raised on the food TRIANGLE - those major food groups, MEAT, VEGETABLE, STARCH. It's a habit hard to break.

But now, the latest food pyramid has been published and it's strict! Over half our daily intake is to be vegetables & fruit. Red meat is out. Fish and fowl are OK, dairy should be skim. And the base of this new pyramid is not a food group -- it's exercise! 45 minutes a day!

We don't do badly on our exercise base -- we have our mall walking and our swimming and here, pictured, our Silver Sneakers -- exercise class for us seniors, keeping each part of the body stretched and nimble and not under too much pressure. We use balls and weights (small ones) stretchy bands and our instructor makes it fun.
