Buena Vista -- MM 27

2 miles beyond the Dravo Cemetery we come to Buena Vista. There is a small trail head at Buena Vista:
  • small parking lot
  • picnic shelter
Just beyond the Buena Vista Trail Head you come to the Peddler's Corner, which has snacks for sale, and, outside, a picnic table and a portapotty.

The Red Falls

This is not a trail head, or a town, but such a striking feature it deserves a picture and a mention on this page! It also serves as a turn-around point when we start from West Newton or Cedar Creek.
The name comes not from the color of the water, but from the stained red rocks over which it cascades. It is, obviously, mineral spill from mines located in the bluff that runs along the right side of the trail. Not for drinking!
Great for looking at. There is a bench and place to rest the bikes.

Industry and Blythdale

There are two small hamlets along the trail beyond the falls: Industry and Blythdale. They are only several streets wide and hug the trail as they hugged the rail line when it was the only way in and out of the town. 3 little rows of neat frame houses with a white church at the end of the street. They remind me of the model towns at the train set up at the Science Museum; of course! The train layout people modeled their towns on railroad towns exactly like these!
