By 1940, Smith was producing reproductions of earlier glass items in the popular Moon and Star pattern. In 1962, the L. E. Smith Glass Company officially contracted with Joseph Weishar of the Island Mould & Machine Company of Wheeling, WVA, to produce some new pieces of "Moon and Star". The molds would remain the property of Island Mould, and Smith Glass would pay royalties for each piece produced with them.
