Charles Moore Wible, my grandfather, was known as "Shorty", for obvious reasons. In addition to founding and running Smith Glass, he built Mountain View Inn.

The Thug Refuses to Talk

National Glass Budget October 9, 1909

Charles M. Wible, paymaster at the decorating works of the L. E. Smith Glass Co., near Grapeville, Pa., was struck on the head with a hatchet in the hands of a man who figured on robbing him of the two weeks' pay of the work- men last Saturday evening. Wible was seriously injured, but not sufficiently to prevent him from giving battle to his antagonist who was finally landed in the lockup. About 4 o'clock, with a satchel containing the money, the paymaster was getting ready to pay off the hands, when it is stated that one Russell Schrok slipped up behind him and tried to make way with the satchel containing the money. The thug, whose home is in Grapeville, is now in jail, but he refuses to talk.
